Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be ported to the PC platform on January 30th, developers Insomniac Games and Marvel Games announced this week. The pair shared the news that a PC version of the PlayStation 5 game is inevitable this week when the game debuted at Marvel Games’ showcase at New York Comic Con. Marvel Games’ complete Spider-Man collection is coming to the PC platform when Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 makes its PC debut through Steam and the Epic Games Store. However, this Spider-Man game will follow PlayStation’s polarizing trend of requiring a PlayStation Network account to play.
In case you were avoiding anything about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 until you were sure the PC version would be released, a new trailer for the game was released today for PC users. A port of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was always expected, as Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered first came to PC, followed by Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales the same year.

As with other PC ports, PlayStation once again partnered with Nixxes Software to bring Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to Steam and the Epic Games Store. In a post on the PlayStation Blog talking about the PC version, Mike Fitzgerald, Director of Core Technology at Insomniac Games, said that the PC version will feature keyboard and mouse controls, ultra-extensive support, and the variety of graphics that PC users need. You mentioned supporting options. We’re excited for their game, but a full breakdown of what’s included in terms of setting hasn’t been shared yet. However, if you’re playing with a keyboard and mouse, DualSense features like haptics and adaptive triggers aren’t available either, so it might be worth dusting off your DualSense for this game.
Unfortunately for those frustrated with the PSN account requirements for PlayStation games brought to the PC platform, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will require a PSN account as well. Two different notifications shared on the Steam page confirm as much by stating in no uncertain terms, “PlayStation Network account required.”
PlayStation Network accounts weren’t previously required for PlayStation PC games, but things exploded when they became mandatory for Helldivers 2 after its release. People who were already playing Helldivers 2 didn’t want to create a PlayStation account just to keep playing the game. Some naysayers, understandably, just didn’t want to do that. Others cited PlayStation’s history of data leaks and breaches. As a reason to be cautious about revealing your information on a new account.
Multiplayer games on PC that require a PlayStation Network account make some sense, but after God of War Ragnarok was released, it became clear that this was going to be the norm going forward. I didn’t need Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered or Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, but that idea is reinforced by Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC. So if you’re planning on playing this sequel on PC, here’s what you can expect. Sign in to your PSN account.
