Predator is back in theaters and Predator: Badlands will be released on November 7, 2025.
The move comes after 20th Century Studios’ historical Predator feature Prey became a sleeper hit on Hulu in 2022. Prey director Dan Trachtenberg returns to direct Badlands, starring Elle Fanning. Until now, it was unclear whether the film would be available for streaming in theaters.
Predator is a replacement for Marvel Studios’ long-conceived Blade, which Disney has removed from its release calendar. The move is not surprising, as Blade currently has no director and has faced repeated delays.
Marvel Studios announced Blade at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, but the film faced numerous obstacles in its path to release, including the pandemic, a worker strike, and the loss of two directors. But the studio is keen to make a movie starring Mahershala Ali as the titular vampire hunter. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige confirmed his commitment to the project to Black Tree TV in July, saying: We’re confident we’re making the right Blade movie. Because there were some great Blade movies years ago. โ
Marvel mainstay Eric Pearson, known for his work on “Black Widow” and “Thor: Ragnarok,” is currently in charge of the script. Wesley Snipes starred in the Blade trilogy from 1998 to 2004, and his surprise role in this summer’s Deadpool & Wolverine helped bring the character back to the forefront. (There is also a meta-joke in which Snipes’ version of Blade says that there is no other Blade but himself, and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool stares at the screen knowing this.)
Marvel also claimed release dates for several untitled projects: February 18, 2028, May 5, 2028, and November 10, 2028.
The Predator series began with the 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. It’s had its ups and downs over the years, but Prey reinvigorated the concept of an alien hunter coming to Earth to confront the most dangerous prey Earth has to offer.
