A24 has released the official trailer for the 1950s-set sports drama directed by Marty Supreme and Josh Safdie (Uncut Gems, Good Time), starring Timothée Chalamet as an imposing table tennis prodigy on the hunt for greatness. Watch the trailer above and read important details below.
story
Set in mid-century New York, Marty Supreme follows Marty Moser, a talented but unstable table tennis player who aspires to become a champion. The film takes inspiration from the life of real-life table tennis showman Marty Reisman, weaving his larger-than-life persona into a fictional upstart through smoky clubs, backroom wagers, and high-pressure tournaments. The film is being touted as a sports drama in which Safdie leans into the obsession, risk, and turmoil that comes with following a dream.
A new trailer for Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” positions Marty as both a rising star and a wild card. The story begins with Kay Stone, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, a glamorous movie star in Marty’s orbit, wondering how she plans to turn her talent into a living. “I live with the confidence that if you believe in yourself, the money will follow,” he answered. When she confronted him about what would happen if things didn’t go his way, he replied, “That doesn’t even enter my mind.”
From there, the footage cuts between a smoke-filled hall and a dangerous side hacker. It follows Marty and his confidante (Tyler Okonma, aka Tyler, The Creator) as they navigate an underground gambling hall, clean up in tournaments, and hone in on their bad decisions. He plays the fiery Chalamet in a performance that is energetic, ambitious, and likely earns him a third Oscar nomination.
cast and creative team
In addition to Chalamet and Paltrow, the ensemble includes Odessa Azion, Fran Drescher, Tyler Okonma, Kevin O’Leary, Penn Jillette, Sandra Bernhardt, Abel Ferrara, and more. This is Chalamet’s first major film role since playing Bob Dylan in Completely Unknown, and Marty Supreme marks Tyler, the Creator’s first major film role.
Writer/director Josh Safdie will co-write the screenplay with longtime collaborator Ronald Bronstein. The score was by Daniel Lopatin, who reunited with Safdie after Good Time and Uncut Gems. Safdie, Bronstein, Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet and A24 will serve as producers.
The film was quietly screened as a surprise screening at the New York Film Festival, and Chalamet described the film as an ode to New York, saying, “Beyond being the story of Marty Moser, this movie is in many ways a love letter to New York. New York is the New York that it was and the city that it can be.”
release date
Marty Supreme will be released in US cinemas on December 25, 2025 and in Australian cinemas on January 22, 2026.
