Watch Screen Realm’s local trailer for the Australian release of psychological thriller Lurker. The Sundance hit starring Archie Madekwe and Theodore Pellerin will be released in Australian cinemas on November 27. Watch the trailer above, check out the poster below, and read the important details.
Matthew (Théodore Perrin, “Bo is Never Afraid, Sometimes, Always”), a retail clerk, lives mostly on the fringes, with a poorly paid job and a parasocial life online. A chance encounter with up-and-coming pop star Oliver (Archie Madekwe, Saltburn, Gran Turismo) opens a door, and from there they grow closer together. The moments behind the scenes are casual. Plus 1 is considered access. The trailer shows a steady shift from fractious fandom to a quietly predatory one, as Matthew’s “support” stiffens and spirals out of control, and Oliver realizes that the real threat lies within his inner circle rather than outside the venue.
Written and directed by Emmy Award winner Alex Russell (who made his feature debut with the acclaimed series The Bear and Beef), Lurker explores the turmoil where celebrity, online culture, and social status collide. The film premiered at Sundance to critical acclaim and subsequently garnered enthusiastic responses on the festival circuit. It currently sits at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Oliver’s rising star power comes from original songs produced by Grammy nominee Kenneth Bloom (aka Kenny Beats) and collaborators including Dijon and Rex Orange County. All tracks are performed in Madekwe’s character.
Universal Pictures will release Lurker in Australian cinemas on November 27th.
