Together, they take on a con man hiding behind love to steal from the victim and help those who can’t find support through traditional channels.
“I never imagined my personal story would resonate as it had,” Fjellhøy told Tudum. “Since Tinder Swindler, I have heard from people all over the world who have been targeted by criminals hiding behind love. Revenge of love is a way to use what I have learned to heal others, help them heal others, regain their voice, power, and life.”
See the crime they are fighting
Romance scams occur when a scammer creates fake relationships to build trust, but use that trust to use money and personal information. Many of these schemes start online and become difficult to detect until serious harm occurs. Reports show that such crimes cost more than $1 billion a year in the United States alone.
Executive producer James O’Reilly states, “The revenge of love reveals the surprising scale of romance fraud, and it reveals the emotional and financial sacrifices it places on its victims. This is a truly modern crime that is exploding in the US and around the world. Length.”
Behind the series
Produced by Twenty Twenty Productions Limited, the series is led by showrunner Chris McLaughlin, with Ruth Kelly serving as creative directors with executive producers Max Shapira Directing and James O’Reilly.
Love Con Revenge will be streaming on Netflix starting September 5th.
