Disney has finally announced its first full trailer for the live-action Lilo & Stitch. Please see the above for more details.
Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, who has Oscar-nominated Marcel the Shell Shell on her shoes, the film introduces newcomer Maia Kiroha as Lilo, a young Hawaiian girl who suffers from loneliness after the loss of her parents. Her life changes as she crosses her path with Stitch, a destructive alien experiment that crashed down on Earth. Chris Sanders, who co-writes and co-directs the 2002 original, returns to audio stitching with this new take.
The live-action cast includes Sydney Elyzebes Agdon as Lilo’s older sister, as well as Billy Magnussen, Zach Galifianakis, Hannah Wadingham and Courtney B. Vance. Some familiar names for animated films include Tia Curryle, Amy Hill, and Jason Scott Lee.
After just a handful of teasers, the nearly two and a half minute trailer gives a better sense of what the movie has in the store, introducing familiar themes to which it belongs to the discovered family, and may be well balanced with the antics of the alien antics. The project was originally under development for Disney+, but eventually jumped to a full theatrical release.
The script was written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, who has worked since Mike Van Ways’ previous draft. Production obligations are handled for rideback by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, with Ryan Halprin serving as executive producer.
The original Lilo & Stitch, released in 2002, was co-written and co-written by Chris Sanders and Dean Deblois for their directorial debut. The Offbeat Sci-Fi comedy was a hit for Disney, earning over USD 273 million at the global box office from a production budget of USD 80 million, securing a nomination for Best Animation Features at the 75th Academy Awards. Its success helped launch a franchise that includes three direct connections from the video and three TV series.
The live-action Lilo & Stitch will open at Australian Cinemas on May 22nd and in the US on May 23rd.
