Prime Video is greenlit with a live-action adaptation of Life Is Strange, a selection-driven video game series known for hurting Time-Rewind hooks and the story of age coming.
Charlie Covell (F**ing World* End*, Kaos) is produced in partnership with Square Enix, Story Kitchen and LuckyChap and produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
What is the story?
Like the game, the show follows Max, a photography student who discovers that he can rewind time after saving her best friend, Chloe. Their power draws the pair into the mystery of a missing person and the cornersers of the seaside town.
Who is behind it?
Story Kitchen has been pushing this for years. Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg said, “I’ve always believed that Story Kitchen is odd that life is more than just a game. It’s a cultural touchstone.”
Covell sounds like it fits the series’ messy, human interests. “It’s a great honor for Amazon MGM Studios to adopt Life Is Trange,” Showrunner said. LuckyChap’s views are equally bullish on pairings. “We have been a huge fan of the visionary Charlie Kobel for many years, so partnering with them on adapting life is truly a dream come true.”
Square Enix, on the other hand, knows exactly what fans want. “For years, life has been asking us to create strange TV shows, and we are delighted to have us trusted Amazon MGM Studios and ultimately bring the universe to life.” And from Amazon’s side, Nick Pepper is setting the tone. “We are very excited to see our global Prime Video customers experience the dynamic world of life.”
Game Franchise
Starting with five episodes of Life Is Strange 2015, created by Dontnod Entertainment, a Little Universe: Prequel Life Is The Strange: The Storm (developed by Deck Nine, 2017, 2018 DLC), Sequel Life Is Strange 2 and its spinoff The Awesome Captain Spirit (developed from Dontnod, developed from 2018-2019), and Life Is Strange: True Is of Captain Spirit (life is strange: October 29, 2024 (deck 9).
There is also a remastered collection (February 2022) in addition to the comics set after one of the first game’s endings and true colors, as well as books in the universe.
My fingers crossed
Adaptation is either alive or dying from two things: troublesome choices and friendships that feel lively. Covell’s track record suggests that neither of them will be sanded. Keep the tension that puts you in timing and let Max and Chloe sit front and center. This could be one of the good things.
