Paramount has released the official trailer for The Naked Gun, a reboot of his beloved comedy franchise. This time, Frank Drevin Jr., led by Liam Neeson, will be directed by Akiva Schaffer (Popstar: Never Stop Stopping, Chip’n Dale: Rescue Rangers). Look up.
Drevin Jr., who inherits the legacy of his late father’s police force, is once again caught up in a highly exaggerated battle to save the world, but never gets caught up in many absurd situations along the way. The trailer offers visual gags and a barrage of deadpan one-liners, and Neeson throws himself into a ridiculous state, whether he accidentally rips a man’s arm and smacks him with them, whether he races desperately to go to the bathroom on time or not.
Pamela Anderson is a co-star of Pamela Anderson as Femme Fatal Beth, who tells Drevin that “I think someone killed my brother,” and who reportedly made the plot a move. “Please, take the chair,” he tells her. “Thank you,” she replies, dragging her chair out with her as she leaves. This trailer gives you a quick glimpse into something sexually charged and extremely ridiculously dynamic. At one point, Drevin misinterprets the file while interviewing the suspect (Busta Rhymes, appears): “You say you served for 20 years for human laughter. I’m sure you were pretty joking.”
The cast also includes Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Kosi, Eddie Yu and villain Danny Houston. The reboot was produced by Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins and is written by Dan Gregor, Doug Mand and director Akiba Schaffer (also a member of Comedy Trio the Lonely Island by the way).
Based on the original naked gun movie and police team! The TV series and film franchise, created by Jim Abraham, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker, began in 1988 with Naked Gun: The Police Squad Files! Starring Leslie Nielsen. Two sequels followed. Naked Gun 2½: Fear of Smell (1991) and Naked Gun 33 1/3: Final Insult (1994).
The naked gun will begin at US cinemas on August 1st and at Australian cinemas on August 21st.
