Venom: The Last Dance may be just that for this version of the character, but Venom certainly lives on. The movie’s ending and end credits scenes hint at how things will turn out in the future, and with the movie now in theaters, it’s time to tell all about it. Major spoilers are below.
In the film’s big finale, Venom leaves Eddie and dies along with the evil Xenophages sent by Knull to secure the manuscript they both have. When one of them (Venom in this case) dies, the Codex disappears again, trapping Knull in an indestructible symbiote prison. Eddie then follows their plan to New York and that’s it.
Or is it? Juno Temple’s character, Dr. Teddy Payne, survives and we see very clearly that she still has the symbiote inside her. In the movie, it is explained that the reason Venom and Eddie keep the codex is because Venom used his powers to bring Eddie back to life, which was the key to unlocking this special codex. I am. So if the humans and symbiotes are still together, there is a possibility of resurrection, which means the Codex still exists. That gives Knull hope and leads to the first end credits scene.
The first end credits scene shows Knull still in prison, promising that when he gets out, “the world will burn.” Then he looks up, revealing a terrifying and intimidating face. Basically, this scene shows that even though Venom: The Last Dance introduced this supervillain without actually using it, he’s still on the table and perhaps we’ll see him again in the future. He says it will happen.
The film’s second end credits scene then follows, showing the bartender played by Cristo Fernandez fleeing Area 55 after the battle. Early in the film, this in-universe version of the character is taken into custody, but the story never ends. That’s actually happening here, but we’ve also seen the possibility of some symbiotes getting into cockroaches. So will Venom survive? Seems like a possibility.
Essentially, The Last Dance feels like Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock’s Last Dance, but there are still symbiotes and symbiote-bound humans in the infinite Marvel Multiverse. However, there are still evil beings that can control or destroy them.
Personally, I didn’t find the above tease all that convincing. The best part of Venom: The Last Dance’s ending is the Maroon 5 montage “Memories,” in which Eddie reminisces about all the good times he had with Venom. It’s a surprising, moving, and satisfying conclusion for this version of the character, and even with all the loose ends, it’s unlikely to ever be topped.
