Despite only being released in theaters earlier this month, Joker: Folie à Deux now has a Blu-ray and DVD release date, and it also comes with a list of bonus features.
You’ll be able to buy the physical version of the Joker sequel starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga starting December 17th. The video-on-demand release date was previously announced and is set for October 29th, just 25 days after its release. .
Bonus features (H/T IGN) include a four-part “long-form” documentary titled “Everything Must Go.” The four parts include “Can I Smoke?,” “Finding Li,” “100 Movies in One,” and “The King of Nothing.”
Although we can only speculate at this point, the documentary does cover Arthur and Lee’s first meeting and relationship, Lady Gaga’s build-up of Lee, Folie à Deux’s nods to some Hollywood classics, and Arthur’s introduction to Folie’s The focus seems to be on his eventual rejection of the Joker persona. Due ending.
There are four other special features – “Musical Characters, Live!” “Joker,” “Colors of Madness” and “Crafted with Class,” with no sign of deleted scenes.
At least one deleted scene did not make it to the final screening. The scene in which Lady Gaga’s Lee kisses a woman outside the courthouse was scrapped by director Todd Phillips.
“There was dialogue in it, and all of a sudden I wanted it to be a moment with more music and atmosphere,” Phillips told Entertainment Weekly. “To play that moment, there needed to be dialogue behind it. So the woman said something, and then Gaga stopped and did this thing. It just got in the way of the moment.”
It’s a shame that certain elements of the DC sequel won’t be salvaged for domestic release, considering there was public talk that some of Folie à Deux’s script was scrapped and rewritten during filming. But perhaps that’s not surprising. Still, despite the middling box office and critical reception, this sounds like a curtain call that should please Folies à Deux fans.
