King of Meat is definitely one of the games I’m most looking forward to right now. A co-op dungeon crawler that trades raw skill for controlled chaos and is fun to play with anyone. Packed with Dark Souls-style combat, Fall Guys-style antics, and friendly fire shenanigans that will make even the most seasoned Helldivers 2 player laugh. If that sounds like fun to you, developer Glowmade is about to run an alpha test, so you can sign up for a chance to play it now.
I was pleasantly surprised after previewing King of Meat earlier this year. I had no idea what I was walking into, other than the fact that it’s publisher Amazon’s latest video game venture, but I discovered a co-op game I can’t wait to play more of I did.
Starring as a group of four in the land of Loregok, you become a contestant on the world’s biggest game show. That means you’ll have to make your way through rooms filled with enemies, traps, and puzzles while pleasing the crowd to get the highest score possible. It’s a simple premise, like a diet version of Dark Souls, but that’s why I enjoyed my time with King of Meat so much. It doesn’t require very advanced skills. It’s enough to embrace the chaos.
There’s another side to King of Meat besides dungeon exploring, as the full launch will depend on a lot of user-generated content. You can build and share your own dungeons with as many headache-inducing rooms as you like. If enough players, or the team at Glowmade, like your work, you might actually make it into the main game rotation. So everyone can experience your unique brand of chaos.
Please note that signing up does not guarantee access to future alpha tests for King of Meat, and even if you participate, your progress will not carry over from the alpha test to the full release. Primarily, you’ll be helping Glowmade with feedback and bug reports by playing early builds of the game.
According to Glowmade, the King of Meat alpha test will run from Wednesday, December 4th to Saturday, December 14th. Playtesting is available to Steam and Xbox players in North America and Europe, and access is subject to a strict NDA. You can sign up right here.
