Osgood Perkins (Longlegs, The Monkey) has dropped another one. The teaser trailer for his new horror movie Keeper has arrived. While bringing the cards closer, the mood is intense and scary. Check out the trailer above and read what you know so far.
There is no plot, setup or context explained in the teaser. Different sequences of women responding to cameras (looking like a different era). Their change in expression: joy gives way to concern, discomfort. Eventually, they scream, their faces soaking in blood. And as the screen turns black, a quiet voice goes “This place isn’t suitable for me.”
Written by Nick Leppard (Dangerous Animal), the Keeper is written as Malcolm as Liz and Rosif Sutherland (Three Pines) and by Tatiana Maslany (Monkey, Black Orphan). Malcolm leaves suddenly and returns to the city. Liz is left alone and soon discovers that she is in the presence of an indescribable evil.
“We were able to make Tatiana Maslany and Roshif Sutherland have the fear of an adult-like relationship that takes place in one place, more or less, in an adult-like place,” Perkins told Indywire. “It’s a beautiful, beautiful movie. And Tatiana Maslany, obviously in the monkey, is just the best. She’s so endless. I’m so lucky to have her.”
This marks the third Perkins film to be released by the US distributor Neon in over a year, following Longlugus and the Monkey. He recently signed a first look agreement with a distributor. This is my first time with a filmmaker. The Keeper also came from the new production label Phobos, which was launched with producer Chris Ferguson.
The neon marketing for this film has been abstract so far. In May, they dropped a looping video on YouTube, entitled YouTube, showing obsessive Maslany in a notepad, interrupted by occasional screams and flashes of bloody images.
The official press release for Keeper’s teaser trailer also includes the following four lines of poem:
You can’t scream our rain barrels,
You cannot climb our apple tree,
I don’t want to play in your garden,
If you don’t get better for me.
The Keeper, starring Birkett Turton, Erin Boyes, Tess Degenstein, Claire Friesen, Christin Park and Logan Pierce, will be released on the US Cinema on October 24th. The Australian release date has not been announced yet.
