Kathy Bates’ ‘Matlock’ Renewed for Season 2, First New Series of Fall 2024 TV Season

That was fast! “Matlock” has been renewed for a second season on CBS, making it the first new show guaranteed to return for the fall 2024 season and the network’s first renewal for an entire season.

Matlock Season 2 will premiere in 2025, CBS announced on Tuesday, October 22nd. This update comes just before Matlock Season 1 Episode 3 airs this Thursday, October 24th at 9:08am.

“Matlock” stars Emmy and Academy Award winner Kathy Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock. Madeline “Mattie” Matlock is a brilliant septuagenarian who achieved success in her youth and decides to rejoin a prestigious law firm, using her modest demeanor and clever tactics to get everything done. win the lawsuit. while investigating her own deeply personal secrets. This is a reimagined version of the classic Andy Griffith series of the same name. Skye P. Marshall, Jason Ritter, Beau Bridges, David Del Rio, Leah Lewis and Sam Anderson also star.

The procedural is clearly off to a great start on the network, and its major premiere is sure to continue to captivate viewers. After just two episodes, it has already earned an average Tomatometer score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. It has a 7.70 out of 10 rating from all critics on Rotten Tomatoes (7 out of 10 from RT’s top critics). Average audience rating is 81%.

Additionally, ratings for the first episode were the highest in five years for a series premiere other than after the Super Bowl on CBS, and Deadline reported that the number of viewers for the first episode on Sunday, September 22nd was The average number of people was 7.73 million.

The April 2019 series premiere of “The Code” was the last episode with high ratings on CBS outside of the Super Bowl. The series premiere of The Code aired after NCIS. It was canceled after one season. Bates’ Matlock was broadcast on the network after NFL games, but not immediately after. Episode 1 began at 60 minutes on September 22, and an encore of the premiere aired on October 10 in the official Thursday time slot. New episodes will continue to air on Thursdays at 9/8pm.

“This reimagined Matlock was conceived by Jennie Snyder Urman with a great surprise plot twist, and the first episode saw it brought to life by the incredibly talented Kathy Bates. At that moment, we knew we had something special,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. said in a statement on Tuesday, October 22nd. “The audience reception and critical acclaim has been overwhelming. We can’t wait for the second season to begin.”

Matlock is created and executive produced by Snyder Urman, creator of Jane the Virgin, and one of that show’s alumni, Yael Grobglass, will guest star in the upcoming third episode of Matlock I am doing it. Bates, Joanna Cline, Eric Christian Olsen and Kat Coiro (who will also direct) will also serve as executive producers. The series is produced by CBS Studios for the CBS Television Network and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
