Johnny Cage from Carl Urban debuts with a flashy new poster for ‘Mortal Kombat 2

The first official view of Carl Urban when Johnny Cage of Mortal Kombat 2 landed is in a true cage way, not exactly subtle. Warner Bros. dropped a poster that is something straight from the deadly combat universe itself.

It’s not a poster of your regular character. Urbans are suitable as cages. Instead, what we have is a fictional Hollywood action blockbuster starring Cowy Martial Artist. Explosions, motorcycles soaring through the air, a catchphrase that reads, “From the studio that brought you a rebel without a cage.” It’s exactly the kind of self-promotional sight that Cage demands.

Cage’s arrival was teased at the end of the 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot. Urban casting was confirmed in 2023. We haven’t seen footage, or even the trailer yet, but at least the images of the city and cages often portray it. A ridiculous right mix of Swagger and Action-Hero.

Many credits for Urban include the Boys, Dread, Lord of the Rings and Star Trek franchise, which look at home in the role, shaking classic sunglasses, smooth hair and a signing grin. Sharing the poster on social media, he leaned a bit.

Johnny Cage has been a mortar combat staple since his franchise debut in 1992, bringing back the martial artists from which several actors were born. In live action, Linden Ashby played the cage in the 1995 human combat film, and Chris Conrad took over in Mortar Combat: The Disappearance (1997) and depicted the cage in the 2010 web series Mortar Combat: Rebirth; Kombat: Legacy, where Casper Van Dien took over Mortal. In the animation, Joel Mchale has announced the character from the Mortal Kombat Legends film.

Director Simon McCoyd returns to helm the sequel, along with a cast that blends Recrust’s favorites with fresh faces. Urban will be joined by newcomers Tatty Gabriel (Jade), Adeline Rudolph (Kitana), and Martin Ford (Shao Kahn), and cast members include Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade) and Louis Tang (Cole) Young), Rudy Lin (Lyu Kang), Mehcad Brooks (Jax), and Sanada Hiroyuki (Scorpion).

Mortal Kombat 2 will open at Australian Cinemas on October 23rd and at US Cinemas on October 24th.

This brings back to the final moments of Mortal Kombat in 2021 and teases Johnny Cage’s upcoming inclusion…
