Yes, we think he’s back. Lionsgate officially confirmed that John Wick: Chapter 5 is in development. Keanu Reeves will return to directing again as Unstoppable Assassin and Franchise helm Chad Stahelski. The announcement came during the Lionsgate Cinema Con 2025 presentation in Las Vegas. The studio has revealed animated installments in the growing John Wick Universe.
Reeves’ character appeared to have met at the end of John Wick: Chapter 4, which exceeded USD 440 million worldwide, but the franchise has not been completed. Reeves, who turns 60 this year, is back to his fifth mainline entry, but also lends his voice to a new animated style prequel that delves into Wick’s infamous “impossible tasks.”
The Animation Project, directed by Shannon Tindle (Ultraman: Rising), along with longtime anime fan Stahelski, will help bring a declined world to life through a variety of lenses.
Adam Fogelson, chairman of Lionsgate Motion Picture group, said, “Keanu, Chad, Basil and Erica won’t come back unless they’re doing something truly amazing and fresh in this world with these characters. We can’t wait for the audience to see where they’ll take us next time.”
Longtime producers Basil Iwannick and Erica Lee reflected their emotions.
The franchise currently surpasses the US$1 billion mark at the global box office, with each main entry above the last entry. Along with the four films, the Wick Universe will feature Anna Delmas-led spinoff ballerina (hitting cinemas in June), Peacock and the Prime Video series The Continental, and the just-released Donnie Een-led spinoff, John Wick: Chapter 4 character, Caine. There’s more to it. Lionsgate is also developing a series of titles featuring John Wick: Lower High Table, AAA video games, as well as immersive experiences in Las Vegas.
No release date for John Wick yet: Chapter 5.
