The 20th century studio has released Springsteen’s first official trailer. The film illustrates the creation of Springsteen’s unforgettable 1982 album Nebraska. This is a peeled back acoustic record that marked one of the most emotionally raw chapters of his career. Please see the trailer above for more information.
“It doesn’t have to be perfect,” the trailer sees Springsteen telling his guitar technology, Mike Butlan (played by Paul Walter Hauser) that he’s helping him record his music. “I want you to feel like you’re in your room.” The line reflects the peeled, unfiltered approach that defined the famous Nebraska on Springsteen’s New Jersey bedroom four-track cassette recorder.
Called the Turning Point of Springsteen’s Life, the film explores the rise in fame, ghosts of family trauma, and the power to create something honest in a world that often demands opposition. Jeremy Strong (Successor) stars as longtime manager and producer John Landau. John Landau said in the trailer:
The ensemble also features Springsteen’s father, Stephen Graham as Doug, love-interested Odessa Young, Gabby Hoffman as his mother Adele, Mark Maron as producer Chuck Plotkin, and David Krumholtz as Columbia Records’ executive al-terror.
Behind the camera is Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Black Mass), returning to the familiar intersection of music and personal calculations. Cooper’s 2009 directorial debut, Crazy Heart told the story of a weathered country musician. This is Jeff Bridges’ Academy Award-winning role. Now, Cooper is working on isolation and self-doubt while standing in the cusp of Superstarm with his focus on another artist in Springsteen’s transition.
In a statement, Cooper described the project as “deeply moving,” explaining it as giving him the opportunity to step into the soul of an artist I have long admired, and witnessing the vulnerability and strength behind his music.” He continued. “This experience felt like a journey through memories, myths and truths, and most of all, it was a privilege to translate that raw emotional integrity onto the screen.
Springsteen: It will not open in Australian cinemas on October 23rd and from anywhere in the US on October 24th.
