Netflix has released the official teaser trailer for Jay Kelly, the latest film by author Noah Bambach (Marriage Story, Francis Ha), starring George Clooney as the famous actor and Adam Sandler as the dedicated manager.
Please read the trailer above and read the information.
A journey of fame, identity and legacy
Clooney will star as Jay Kelly, a world-famous film star whose carefully maintained image begins to unravel. By his side is his longtime manager, Ron (Sandler), who together embark on a press tour of Europe, quickly becoming introspective. As the journey unfolds, both men are forced to consider past choices, personal relationships, and the legacy they may ultimately leave behind.
At one point in the trailer, Jay is asked, “What do you say to someone who says he’s just playing himself?” His reply: “Do you know how difficult it is to be yourself? You should give it a try.”
Clooney’s real life reaction to “playing yourself”
That line may hit chords beyond the film. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Clooney spoke to criticism that he often “plays himself” on screen. “Do people say I’m just playing around with myself? I don’t give shit,” Clooney said. “There aren’t many people in my age who aren’t allowed to do wide-ranging comedies like O Brother (Art Thou?), and you can do Michael Clayton or Syriana.
Looking back at the trajectory of his career, Clooney added: “Until I was 33, I was really not successful in such a way that I could be blind. I was working for 12 years at that point.
The cast and creative team behind Jay Kelly
Joining Clooney and Sandler are a stacked cast that includes Laura Dern, Billy Cradup, Riley Kee, Grace Edwards, Stacey Keech, Jim Broadbent, Patrick Wilson, Eve Hewson, Greta Gerwig, Emily Mortimer and more. Mortimer also co-written the script with Baumbach.
Produced by David Heyman (Marriage Story) and Amy Pascal (Little Women), the film marks Baumbach’s fourth Netflix feature, following Myrowitz’s Tale, Marriage Story and White Noise.
