Avatar: Fire and Ash may still deliver one of James Cameron’s most emotional films.

Cameron revealed that his wife, Susie Amis Cameron, saw an early cut of Avatar 3 at the end of last year, remained visibly shaking. Not only tears, but a complete wreck. “My wife was watching everything from one end to the other. She was away from it and didn’t show her bits and pieces as we went on. This was December 22nd,” Cameron said in an interview with Empire. result? “She baed for four hours.”

Apparently, Susie was so overwhelmed that Cameron couldn’t even get in the way of constructive feedback. “She kept trying to undo the shit so she could give me a certain response, and then she just tore it apart and started crying again,” he recalled. In the end he had to call it the night. “Finally, I’m ‘Honey, I have to sleep. Sorry, I’ll talk again,” Cameron laughed.

Susie is, of course, not a fair audience. She is closely tied to Cameron’s career and the avatar franchise, but the director trusts her instincts. “She’s a pretty good pioneer,” Cameron said. “She called out the ball with Titanic and Avatar and Avatar 2. That’s why I trust her heart.”

It’s not the first time Cameron has suggested the emotional weight of fire and ashes. He teased at the D23 Expo in August 2024. It was an insane adventure and a feast for the eyes, but it also had a much higher emotional interest than ever before. “He added, “We’re going to enter a truly challenging territory for all the characters you know and love.”

Avatar: Given the end of the water, when Sully’s family was hit hard by the loss of his eldest son Netyam, it’s hard not to wonder who will be next. Cameron’s story about “really challenging territory” could mean even more tragedy for Jake and Natiri, or for young children. There are also questions about Kiri’s mysterious connection with eywa, which may play a pivotal role, and whether it puts her at risk. And then there’s Payakan, a fan-interesting Tulkun. No one is really safe in Cameron’s Pandora.

One thing is certain: organizations are essential. Avatar: Fire and Ash will open on December 18th at Australian cinemas and December 19th at US cinemas.
