Jack Jones, the Grammy Award-winning singer who sang the theme song for The Love Boat, has died at the age of 86.
Jones’ stepdaughter, Nicole Whitty, told The Hollywood Reporter that Jones died Wednesday night at Eisenhower Medical in Rancho Mirage, Calif., after a two-year battle with leukemia.
Singer and actor Jones was best known for voicing the Love Boat theme song in over 200 episodes starting in 1977, by which time he had already had a long and successful career.

He signed his first recording contract with Capitol Records in 1959 and released his debut album, This Love of Mine.
He was soon dropped by Capitol, who wanted to turn the crooner into a rockabilly singer, and was picked up by Cup Records.
There, he shot to fame with his 1965 release Lollipops and Roses, which he recorded while on leave from the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

The single peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart and won a Grammy Award for Best Male Solo Vocal Performance in 1962, which Jones said was a big surprise. .
“I hadn’t been in the music industry that long, so it was a bit of a shock to me,” he told The Independent in 2008. “I wasn’t expecting it at all.”
He had several more hits and won another Grammy Award in 1964 for Wives and Lovers. .

Jones released more than 50 albums during his career, appeared on movie soundtracks such as Goodfellas, Good Morning, Vietnam, and American Hustle, and continued performing into the ’80s.
He also considered himself an actor, appearing in 1978’s The Comeback and 1982’s Airplane II: The Sequel.
“I’ve always been one of the lucky ones who never wanted to be anything other than a singer and an actor,” he told The Independent. “Most people know me as a singer, but I’m also an actor.”
