Australia’s J Attack did not make it to the opening round robin of the 2024 Paris Games, but won praise for their “amazing performance”.
He also secured the support of at least one judge to prevent the country from recording a shutout record in the sport’s only Olympic appearance.
The 16-year-old’s efforts weren’t enough to earn her three round-robin wins in one night, and she was as talked about as Australian B-girl Regan’s Australian-filled performance in the women’s event. It never became.

It was a tough challenge for the teenager (real name Jeff Dunn) to compete against breakers more than twice his age.
Ray Gunn – 36-year-old Australian full-time instructor Rachel Gunn – Similar to J Attack, J Attack stands out from the crowd in full Australian Olympic jerseys, rather than the relaxed streetwear preferred by many competitors. It stood out inside.
Although J Attack did not win, they received judges’ votes in two of their three matches, outperforming Raygun’s shutout.
He was praised by commentators for a “great performance” and big moves.
Unfortunately, they weren’t enough to get him over the line.
In the first round, Ukraine’s Kuzya won both rounds, giving J Attack only one vote out of 18 judges’ votes.
One of the commentators said, “It’s very important to have a concept during the round, so it’s very important to note that bigger moves may not result in a win.”
“So if you’re just throwing one move after another and there’s no consistent flow or some sort of concept or structure behind it, and the other competitors aren’t making too many big moves, you win. But they have a concept and a flow.
“And in this round, that’s what you saw from Kuzuya. He had a really good flow, a really good concept, used cultural dance in his breaking, and was very conscious of the music. ”
The same thing happened in the second round, where he faced France’s Danny Dunn, who won both rounds.
He has previously talked about taking advantage of people who have lost touch with the music and flow.
“He says he feels that dancers often become so focused on executing big movements that they actually lose their musicality, and when she encounters a breaker like that, she realizes there’s an opportunity there. ” the commentator pointed out.
J Attack once again found themselves on the back foot in the third match as Canada’s Phil Wizard showed off his close connection to music with a more varied routine.
However, he managed to get a vote from one judge, receiving 2 votes out of 54, placing him at the bottom of the group with no wins.
Breaking is not scheduled to return for the 2028 Los Angeles Games, and the World DanceSport Federation said it was “deeply disappointed” by the decision.
Paris 2024 began with a round-robin phase in which groups of four breakers competed one at a time.
Only two players advance from each round-robin group before the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals to determine the champion.
From Group B, Kuzuya and Phil Wizard passed.
