Netflix will land a six-part series, which will take place on May 13th, leaning against the ultra-dark, grotesque side of Tom Segura’s comedy. This clip shows episodes from the show and watches episodes from someone who had high expectations from him.
Armed with a remote control of the reaction – a red button to give thumbs for approval, disapproval, and shut down immediately – Segura’s mother enters the screening room with careful curiosity. It won’t last long.
“No, Tommy. That’s not funny. I hate this. I’m over vomiting,” she says. When Segura claims that one episode is a “sweet story,” Charo hehes and agrees.
“You can be a good comedian without being too disgusting,” Charo tells him at another point. “You can’t tell people this is my son! What do you know? You’re an orphan.”
According to Netflix, the bad idea is “a collection of hilariously disturbing stories that push the boundaries of decency in ways only Tom Segura could imagine.” Based on this preview, they are not exaggerating.
Sketches range from surreal scenarios to awkward moments that appear to be designed to test gag reflexes. Black Mirror meets Cronenberg and introduces Think Think Segura’s signature Deadpan.
“They spent a lot of money making this,” Segura tells her mother. “Pay them back,” she tells him.
Despite her mother’s devastation, Segura appears to be happy throughout the promotion, laughing from ear to ear as her mother listens more and more.
Her final thoughts on the series? “Cancel. Please erase it.”
“Thank you, mom,” replies Segura. “I’m glad you liked the show.
