Billie Eilish has released the official trailer for Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D), an immersive concert film she co-directed with blockbuster director James Cameron. For fans, it’s a must-see, promising a blend of spectacle, intimacy and cutting-edge technology. Watch the trailer above, then read on for more information.
Billie Eilish brings fans closer than ever
The trailer begins with Eilish looking out her hotel window at fans camping below. One photo from her vantage point drew a crowd within minutes that swarmed outside the building as she banged on the glass and shouted, “I love you!”
The concert footage cuts through different legs of the worldwide run, capturing Eilish performing in the round and playing songs old and new. The film also seems to carve quieter textures between noise and light. We see the scrapes on her hands from greeting fans at the barricade, and glimpses of how she relaxes after a hard day’s work. (She has a “puppy room” with cute dogs to help her relax. Cameron loves the idea, saying, “I’ll definitely do this in my next movie.”)
The trailer goes beyond spectacle to poke fun at a more vulnerable demographic. Most notably, Eilish is performing for the first time without her brother and longtime collaborator Finneas. She read the note he left her before her first solo performance. He was visibly emotional in the note. “Traveling the world with you has been the joy of my life… Good luck tonight, but you don’t need it. No one can do it like you.”

Director James Cameron aims to further advance concert film technology
Cameron appears throughout the trailer, framing the project as a technical swing that goes far beyond a standard tour documentary. “No one had ever shot a concert film of this magnitude before,” he says. “We are using technology that has never been used before.”
The trailer shows that Cameron is not just a director, but also serves as a kind of interviewer from behind the camera. “You said you were in a lot of pain throughout the tour,” he told her at one point. “Yes,” she replies.
Eilish first hinted at the collaboration during a performance in Manchester, telling the crowd: “I’m working on something very special with a guy named James Cameron, and it’s going to be in 3D.”
