Prior to launch tomorrow, today we had an exclusive opportunity to play Rugby League 26. You can also showcase (one patch per day) what gameplay footage looks like for the first time.
I played 3-4 games with both amateur and professional difficulties.
While many base gameplay is familiar to those who have played RLL4, the game clearly has a portrait of one player, new comments from Andrew Vos and Cameron Smith, and the overall gameplay is very smooth.
In my opinion, the visuals alone make the game more realistic and the best part of the game. The players clearly look like players and it’s great to see them eventually updated inline on the current roster, as they either bring more weight to each goal that scored, or each goal kicked.
Obviously, there have been a lot of changes to the rules since the last game. The sixth inning is a whole new addition, with seven tackle sets introduced, and there are plenty of other small rules that are all in the game.
Is it a completely different game? Well, no, it has a lot of quirks in League Live 4, but it is definitely a suitable game for 2025 and I’m really keen to check out new modes like the Pro Team (Think Ultimate Team) to see how they were formed and play old old Ragba League on the big screen in general without booting the PS4 version.
It will appear on the PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X tomorrow, and will also appear on the Nintendo Switch 2 in the future. You can grab it here.
I’ll do a review for you next week or so. I look forward to seeing you all online, but for now I’m heading to Melbourne’s mighty storm (and how Papi’s mullet shines).
