Netflix has dropped the official trailer for Happy Gilmore 2, the much-anticipated sequel to Adam Sandler’s 1995 cult comedy. Look up.
Sandler returned when a rage-prone hockey player became a golf star, but it’s been a while since he reached the reputation and skill level of the golf circuit. He decides to return to the course to cover the ballet tuition fees for his daughter’s daughter (played by Sandler’s real-life daughter, Saddish Sandler). “You can shank one at any time, even when you’re at the top of the game,” he says in the trailer, teeing up for a chaotic return to the tour.
Directed by Kyle Newacheck (Murder Mystery) and co-written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy, this sequel will once again be clashed with Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald) and reunited with Old Flame Virginia Venit, played by Julie Bowen. And yes, Ben Stiller’s Hal is back – and looks as punchable as ever.
It will be loaded into the guest list. Among them are Eminem, Post Malone, Margaret Quarry, Travis Kels, Benny Safdy, Kevin Neelon, Kim Whitley and WWE star Becky Lynch. Eminem can be seen in the trailer in a flash, calling Happy Jackass.
Bowen, who has returned nearly 30 years since her first outing as Virginia, revealed to a Hollywood reporter that she was really surprised to be asked. “I thought, ‘Well, I’m not there,'” she said. “It’s like Virginia Venite, 30 years have passed, he has a hottie. He has a bit of a bitty on the side, like the girl in the cart.” Even her daughter had informed her that a particular IT girl had been cast. “My 18 year old said, ‘Mom, I heard they’re having a sequel and he’s with Sydney Sweeney and Kurt’s girl.” ”
It turned out to be an online rumour – Sweeney isn’t in the film – but Bowen joked, “I’m hurt, I respect that move. Of course, why not?
Happy Gilmore 2 will swing to Netflix on July 25th.
