The festive “Happy New Year” teaser released by Netflix includes the first footage of Adam Sandler’s long-awaited Happy Gilmore sequel. Look above.
Fans of the unconventional golf hero are looking forward to seeing Sandler reprise his role as the passionate hockey-loving golfer who first captured audiences’ hearts in 1996. In the video, Sandler can be seen returning to the green and wearing his signature Timberland shoes. Wear your hockey jersey, take a big swing, and cheer “Yes, baby!”
The comeback will be accompanied by a cast packed with familiar faces and fresh talent. Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald reprise their roles as Virginia Venitto and Shooter McGavin, respectively, and Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, known as Bad Bunny, joins the ensemble. NFL star Travis Kelce also appeared and cheekily acknowledged the moment, saying, “It’s good to see you again, Mr. Gilmore.”
Fans of the original will be happy to know that the primary creators of the first film are back at work. Co-writer Tim Herlihy will return to write the sequel alongside Sandler, and Happy Gilmore director Dennis Dugan will serve as executive producer. Additionally, Kyle Newacheck (Murder Mystery) will reunite with Sandler to direct, with producers Jack Giarraputo and Robert Simmons also returning.
The cast is stellar, with Conor Shelley, Ethan Katowski, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, and Philip Fein Schneider rounding out the roster announced by Netflix. And the film’s IMDb listing will add even more big names, including Ben Stiller, Benny Safdie, and Margaret Qualley.
Fans have long speculated about where the character’s journey will lead after saving his grandmother’s house and proving his mettle on the golf course. Stay tuned for more details on Happy Gilmore 2, which is scheduled to be released on Netflix sometime in 2025.
