There are a total of eight medal events scheduled for Australian athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which will be held on Thursday 1 August.
Australian athletes have so far won 16 medals at Paris 2024, including seven gold, six silver and three bronze.
Swimming has accounted for most of Australia’s medals at the ongoing Summer Olympics, with 10, and today the Dolphins will aim to add to Australia’s medal tally at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The women’s 4x200m freestyle relay will be the highlight event of the day for Australian swimmers, including already Paris 2024 Olympic champions Molly O’Callaghan and Ariane Titmuss. He hasn’t finished anywhere other than on the podium since Athens in 2004.
However, the Dolphins have not won a gold medal in the women’s 4x200m fly relay since the 2008 Beijing Games. They won the gold medal at the 2012 London Games and the 2016 Rio Games, losing to the United States, but finished behind the People’s Republic of China and the United States at the 2020 Tokyo Games.
The Dolphins have already won a gold medal in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay with a new Olympic record, and are hoping to win the entire fly relay title at the 2024 Paris Games.
Abby Lee Connor and Elizabeth Deckers will also represent the Dolphins in the women’s 200m butterfly final. Jenna Strauch is in second place for the 200m breaststroke final.
Track and field events also begin Thursday with a 20km race walk event. Australia’s Rhydian Cowley, Kyle Swann and Declan Tingay will compete in the men’s race, while Rebecca Henderson, Jemima Montag and Olivia Sanderley will be aiming for a podium spot in the women’s race.
After a strong performance in the heats, Ruby Pass will compete in the women’s individual all-around final later in the day, hoping to bring Australia its first-ever gymnastics medal.
Meanwhile, Roswellas will be competing to defend his men’s four-person rowing title. Alexander Hill is the only member of the Tokyo 2020 Champion Quartet in the team.
Olivia Price, 31, will be aiming for her second Olympic medal when she competes in the women’s skiff at the 2024 Paris Olympics alongside 21-year-old Evie Haseldine, but coincidentally, his dream of becoming an Olympian was ignited by Price’s silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
Timothy Anderson will compete today in the men’s single kayak, canoe and slalom competitions.
