Disney+ is expanding its lineup in Australia and New Zealand, bringing ESPN sports programming to the platform in the coming months. This is the first time ESPN has been integrated into Disney+ in an English-speaking market outside of North America. This development follows last year’s launch in Latin America and its addition to US service in December 2024.
A dedicated ESPN hub allows subscribers to access over 10,000 hours of live and on-demand sports. This includes live broadcasts from ESPN and ESPN2, as well as popular studio shows such as SportsCenter, The Pat McAfee Show, NBA Today, and First Take. A replay of major events and a 30 30 documentary series from ESPN are also available.
Disney+ focuses primarily on films, TV series and occasional specials, but the addition of ESPN shows a major change. Live Sports will be part of the platform’s regular programming, including the NBA All-Star Weekend, the NBL Championship Series, the MLB Opening Day, the NBA Finals, and the NHL Stanley Cup Finals for streaming the NHL Stanley Cup Finals.
“We are pleased to announce that we are committed to providing a range of services to our customers,” said Kylie Watson-Whiler, senior vice president and managing director of Walt Disney Company Australia and New Zealand and Head of ESPN Asia-Pacific Region. . “Sport on Disney+ is an innovative game changer. Plus, it enriches the already powerful and unique content offering, increases subscriber value and serves sports fans everywhere.”
Watson-Wheeler also highlights the scale of ESPN’s existence on the platform. ESPN’s unparalleled coverage of large global sporting events and dedicated local programming adds to the wide range of entertainment already available on Disney+ for viewers of all ages. โ
ESPN is a staple of Australian sports broadcasts that cover everything from basketball to baseball, and has been a staple food for almost 30 years. It is worth noting that arrivals to Disney+ will not replace existing access. ESPN is available through Foxtel, Kayo Sports, Fetch TV and Sky NZ.
