Millie Bobby Brown and Gabriel Label are set to fall in love. The two stars are romantic comedy heading for Netflix, a blend of campus crash and fantasy/sci-fi twists, just draw it.
The film follows two carefree college students, who are complete strangers. My phone is strangely malfunctioning and I start showing my photos 10 years later. Kicker? In the future they will be married to children. They have not even met now.
Imagine, as Hollywood Reporter first reported, directed by Lee Toland Krieger (The Age of Adaline, You), written by Jesse Lasky, making his feature debut. Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum are produced alongside PCMA productions Brown and father Robert Brown. Executive producers include Alyssa Altman (R/K Films), Jake Bongiovi, Isobel Roberts and David Kern.
The film marks Brown’s first official Rom-com, and she has been obsessed with the project from its early stages. He also continues to run the busy run of the Stranger Things Star Netflix project. Brown starred in this year’s The Electric State, The other side of Chris Pratt, leading last year’s fantasy adventure damsel. She recently wrapped up productions in Enola Holmes 3 and has renamed her role as a lively teenage detective, continuing her behind the scenes role as an executive producer. And of course there is the fifth and final season of Stranger Things – divided into three event-style releases – starting the development of this November farewell.
Meanwhile, Label gained fame as the young Steven Spielberg of the Fabelmans, and most recently portrayed Lorne Michaels on Saturday nights of Jason Lateman. The film gives him the opportunity to take on the role of Leadman’s ROM-COM, increasing his stronger resume.
The concept alone offers an opportunity to stand out from the regular ROM-COM fares, especially with the time twist angle and unconventional setup. It’s also Brown’s genre pivot when her recent Netflix achievements were able to bounce back a bit. This is a very expensive thing that the electric condition did not land accurately with viewers and critics earlier this year. Whether this becomes a streaming hit or just a compelling curiosity is carried out depends on the run, but it certainly should be noted if fresh pairings and hooks are built for online discussion.
