Will this be an even more immersive experience?
Rumors, speculation, and leaks abound within the video game industry. However, some of people’s comments are a little more reliable than others. While there’s no direct statement on what we can expect when it comes to Grand Theft Auto VI, the former developer did mention something that could be theoretically possible with this upcoming game. This will encourage players to pick up the game and see if Rockstar Games can deliver.
Ben Hinchliffe is a former Rockstar Games developer who has made quite a bit of headlines recently. The former developer is now at development studio Just Add Water and recently spoke with IGN. In conversation, it appears that Rockstar Games may be aiming for a much more immersive experience with NPCs compared to what was seen in Grand Theft Auto V. This goes back to Ben’s comment about his time working on Red Dead Redemption. 2.
During the game’s development cycle, Ben recalled how the studio’s upper management wanted developers to push for a more vibrant world. This meant that the NPCs needed to feel authentic. Of course, according to Ben, you were dealing with small towns and low population density. As a result, they tended to make players feel more involved in the world and make them think twice when they started attacking random characters.
A key part of this is that the population within the game world has been reduced. However, this level of immersion and interactive NPCs is not entirely impossible.
From a theoretical perspective, and given what we might be able to do given the budget and team size, I don’t see why we can’t achieve (Red Dead Redemption 2) levels of NPC interaction for extended periods of time. Games on a bigger scale. – Ben Hinchliffe
As Ben pointed out, this is just a theory and not a direct statement of their knowledge, but Rockstar could offer a similar level of interactive NPCs in Grand Theft Auto VI. Unfortunately, another trailer for this title has yet to be released, so we’ll be left in the dark for even longer. Instead, Rockstar Games only released the first announcement trailer in December of last year. As the trailer’s anniversary approaches, we’ll probably also get closer to new marketing materials being released to the public.
