Horror fans who came to New York Comic Con looking for information about Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 didn’t go home disappointed. Blumhouse’s sequel to the blockbuster Five Nights at Freddy’s hasn’t started filming yet, but fans have seen the first poster for the sequel. Additionally, the studio confirmed that the release date is December 5, 2025.
For the uninitiated, it would be easy to assume that the murderous animatronic glimpsed on the poster is simply Freddy Fazbear. But it’s actually Toy Freddy, one of the major additions from the 2014 video game Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. This lends further credence to previous reports that the film’s sequel was inspired by the game of the same name.
Matthew Lillard and Josh Hutcherson have been confirmed to reprise their roles as William Afton and Mike Schmidt, respectively, in the sequel. Additionally, Piper Rubio is set to return as Mike’s sister Abby, as well as Elizabeth Lalli as Vanessa, despite being in a coma at the end of the first film.
Hutcherson recently teased that the sequel will have a much scarier tone than the original film, but Lillard told Collider that filming on the film will begin in November. He also praised the sequel’s script, calling it “brilliant.” Five Nights at Freddy’s director Emma Tammi co-wrote the script with series creators Scott Cawthon and Seth Cadeback and will also direct the sequel.
