The film begins with reclusive author von Kovac promoting an in-universe Wonder Man reboot, then cuts to Simon devouring auditions, stunt calls, studio notes, and more. The show, filmed around Los Angeles, seems to delve into the mechanics of filmmaking while also focusing on the spectacle of superheroes.
At New York Comic Con, Abdul-Mateen summed up Simon’s struggles: “As an actor, there’s so much going on. There’s vulnerability, ego, hopes and dreams, ambition, lonely roads. As Simon, I walk a fine line and get to experience it all. I’m really excited to share Simon’s journey to achieve his dreams.”
Kingsley was delighted to play Trevor again and framed the series as Valentine’s Day. “LA represents the dreams of people throughout this great entertainment industry…We were in an iconic echo of the great Hollywood era that still lives on today.”
who is in the mix
In addition to Abdul-Mateen II and Kingsley, the ensemble also stars Demetrius Gross as Simon’s brother Eric/The Grim Reaper, and Ed Harris as Sharky agent Neil Saroyan. Agent Cleary, played by Arian Moayed, makes an appearance, and the teaser flashes the basics of the epic set: a make-up chair, a wire rig, a callback board, and Trevor being Trevor.
