The first trailer for Karate Kid: Legends premiered at New York Comic Con, and it looks like an epic return to the popular martial arts series.
A short clip, which has not yet been released to the public, shows Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) visiting Daniel LaRusso’s (Ralph Macchio) palace. Han asks Daniel to help him train Li Feng (Ben Wang) to become the next Karate Kid. The trailer mirrors much of the content of the first Karate Kid movie, with Lee battling bullies, trying to impress his girlfriend (Sadie Stanley), and competing in his first match.
Although the creators of Cobra Kai are not involved, the new film still takes place in the same world, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to cameos from Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and others.
The cast includes Joshua Jackson, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Sadie Stanley, Ming-Na Wen, Aramis Knight, Wyatt Oleff, and Jennifer-Lynn Christie. The film is the sixth film in the Best Kid series, following the 2010 remake of Best Kid starring Chan and Jaden Smith. Canon to the series, Cobra Kai follows Daniel and Johnny (and a number of other characters in the film) as they run their own dojo and train a new generation of martial artists.
The Best Kid: Legend is scheduled to hit theaters on May 30, 2025. For more information, check out our list of the most exciting movies coming out in 2024 and beyond. Or skip to the best movie release dates list.
