Important points
Remedy announced FBC Firebreak, the studio’s first foray into online multiplayer gaming, at this week’s Xbox Showcase. It has since been confirmed that Firebreak will not only be available on PS5, but will also be released on day one of Game Pass and PS Plus. This is the second time both games have appeared since PS Plus was relaunched. Another game was Sea Of Stars.
Remedy surprised us with an unexpected announcement during Thursday’s Xbox Showcase, in addition to announcing the release date of the anticipated Alan Wake 2 DLC. It turns out that the studio is also working on the first-ever online multiplayer game, FBC Firebreak. We want as many people as possible to play Firebreak, so the multiplayer shooter will be available on both Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus from day one.
Firebreak was revealed during the Xbox Showcase, so the trailer didn’t mention it coming to PS5. Sea Of Thieves may be coming to PlayStation now, but the console wars aren’t over yet. A trailer shared after the showcase confirmed that Firebreak will be available on PS5 and Steam, and an accompanying press release (thanks to Stephen Totilo) confirms that it will be available on competing subscription services from day one. has been confirmed.
FBC Firebreak comes to Game Pass and PS Plus on day one
Remedy wants as many people as possible to play this game
PlayStation revamped PS Plus in 2022 to make it more similar to Xbox’s Game Pass model, but it still won’t offer first-party titles to subscribers from day one, even with Premium. We probably won’t offer it again in the future. However, while third-party games may appear on day one of Extra and Premium, developers typically have to choose between Game Pass and Plus. FBC Firebreak will be a very rare example of a game being delivered to both services on the same day of release.
As far as I know, only one other game has done this since PlayStation’s new tiered Plus system was introduced, and that’s 2023’s Sea Of Stars. Knockout City did something similar in 2021, becoming available on Game Pass and distributed as a monthly game on PS Plus, but that was before the service was phased out. It also eventually went free to play, but has since been shut down.

Remedy hopes Firebreak doesn’t suffer the same fate as Knockout City, and will continue to follow what’s happening in the live service landscape these days. In fact, Control studio claims that Firebreak is not a live service game. There are a lot of lessons to be learned, especially from Concord’s disastrous launch, and not releasing the game on PS Plus could be one of them. By releasing Firebreak on Game Pass and PS Plus from day one, Remedy hopes to at least give more people a chance to try it out.
Although no official release date has been confirmed for FBC Firebreak, we do know that it will be released in 2025. Not only is Remedy now one of the most beloved studios in the world, it has quickly become one of the world’s. busiest. In addition to the Alan Wake 2 DLC and Firebreak, a sequel to Control and a remake of Max Payne 1+2 are also in the works.
Next Alan Wake and Control adaptation should use original actors
If another fancast Jared Leto as Alan Wake, I would scream to death.
