Brad Pitt has a new box office gross. The actor’s latest film, F1, officially overtakes World War I Z, to become the highest-selling film of his career, at least in terms of his starring role.
According to box office revenue, Formula 1 has now won more than $545 million worldwide, and has previously won World War II Z, which previously held a $540 million title worldwide. The impressive F1 haul includes $372.3 million from international markets and $173.3 million domestically in the US, bringing the film’s global IMAX total of $84.7 million.
Technically, F1 is not Pitt’s biggest movie
F1 is Pitt’s biggest success as a major man, but the top-selling film with Pitt in all roles remains Deadpool 2, which has won over $785 million worldwide. The kickers are: Pitt only appeared in Deadpool 2 for about 2 seconds. He played Vanisher. Vanisher played an invisible superhero who was revealed to be Pitt only when the character becomes electrocuted in the skydive. It’s a memorable blink and you’re a Miss It cameo, and one Pitt reportedly impressed Starbucks coffee and his kids.
Nevertheless, F1 shows a major milestone in Pitt’s career, both as a leading man and a producer. The titles of Apple’s original films distributed by Warner Bros. continue to perform strongly on multiple territories, and see particularly strong retention in markets like Korea.
Best markets and important responses
The top-performing markets for films so far include China ($55.5 million), the UK ($28 million), France ($26.7 million), South Korea ($24 million), and Mexico ($19.3 million). Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick), F1 stars Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a veteran Formula 1 driver who emerged from the retirement of Riging Rising Star Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris.
F1 has also received good reviews from critics and audiences. At the time of writing, the film holds an 83% score on critics’ rotten tomatoes and has an impressive 97% audience score.
After decades of box office success from Troy to Hollywood back in old days, Pitt crossed the finish line with the biggest hit of his career. That’s, of course, unless he counts the time he popped up Electro Croctomid in a superhero movie for the price of coffee.
