Equalizers will rap in season 5
Premiered in 2021 following the Super Bowl, Equalizer reimagined the classic 1980s series as Robin McCall. The cast included Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira, Lorraine Toussaint and Laya Deleon Hayes.
The network’s decision comes before the 2025-26 schedule reveals, removing the equalizer from the updated list as one of several CBS dramas. Produced by Universal TV, the series was the last remaining scripted holdout awaiting its fate.
There was debate about creating a short sixth and final season, but reported with budget cuts and concessions from Queen Latifah himself, but the show was eventually cancelled. According to deadlines, the season 5 finale was created as it could also serve as a conclusion to the series.
Queen Latifah shares her farewell
Star and executive producer Queen Latifah looked back at the show’s end and thanked the fans for their support and joined Instagram.
“To step into a kickass role like Robin was everything I wanted,” she wrote. “Equalizers blow past every dream we had and having the opportunity to do this for five seasons feels honestly surreal.”
She said, “Thanks to our incredible cast, crew, producers and writers! And I can’t say enough about the fans! y’all is so loyal, so loud, to ride or do it. That’s exactly what we can’t keep doing. It can’t thank the world for us. Don’t worry.
The cast will be reflected at the end
Following Latifah’s post, the co-stars also shared their thoughts on social media.
Lorraine Toussaint, who played Robin’s Aunt VI, wrote: “I am so grateful and have moved your loyal audience… you have been so welcoming us in five extraordinary seasons in your home and your life. I would like to thank the incredible crew and cast who have become a family.
Leia Deleon Hayes, who portrayed Robin’s daughter Delilah, also posted an emotional farewell. “This show came to my life just before the pandemic and it made my dream come true. I am honored to be an adult with this show.
Shared by Tory Kittles, actor who played Detective Marcus Dante: “Go out with the Van! Thank you to everyone who has made these five seasons a success. Especially the fans who showed love.”
That rating fell into a recent season, but the show remained a reliable Sunday night performer. Despite behind the scenes efforts to continue, the series will take part in other CBS cancellations like FBI: Most Wanted and SWAT
