Earlier this week, EB Games announced that it is accepting game trade-in for all retro games, accessories and consoles starting with NES, all the way to the Nintendo Wii U and everything in between.
Trading games in new games is a very simple process, but it’s far more subtle for retro games, as you really need to know what the value of something really needs, and it’s definitely a bit more subtle for retro games, whether it’s complete and there are many fake cartridges there or not.
I’m never a retro collector or have a lot of knowledge about the value of old games, but there are many people out there. One is “Livingare TrogamingLife” on Instagram, which has an incredible collection that you can check out here.
Now I agree that the average person who trades on old games is probably not a collector, but perhaps reveals the problem by trading retro gaming products in contrast to new titles.
Trade prices for EB Games Retro Games
INSTA users were given the following for a complete game-by-game (I’m sure the EB World bonus is probably on top, but obviously it doesn’t create a mountain of difference.
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong Quest (SNES) – $10 Metal Gear Sale: Snake Eater 3D (3DS) – $11 The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap (GBA) – $16 Silent Hill 2 (Xbox) – $17 $17 Banjo (N64) – $21 Virta Fighter 3tb (sega) – $3 yoshi’s black) – $21 $20 Pandora Tower (WII) – $21 $20
It will be interesting to see how EB Games solves value and whether there are differences based on the quality or integrity of the game.
Obviously, I don’t know what they’re doing in the game, and how they’re choosing to sell. This may work well if they end up offering them at a reasonable price, but we will continue to follow to confirm this pan out.
