Production on Season 2 of HBO’s Dune: Prophecy is officially underway, with cameras rolling in Hungary, Jordan, and Spain, and a behind-the-scenes video has been released that gives fans a first look at the cast returning to their Bene Gesserit roots.
Season 1 this year earned four Emmy nominations, and HBO is currently expanding its reach, adding eight episodes to the new season, up from the original six. In a climate where streamers often lean toward shorter orders, this bump signals showrunner Alison Shapker’s continued confidence in the massive prequel series.
A behind-the-scenes video shared on social media shows cast members scattered around their respective sets, teasing what’s to come for the shadowy cult at the center of the Dune universe.
The series is set 10,000 years before the rise of Paul Atreides and follows the efforts of the Harkonnen sisters to confront the forces that threaten humanity’s future while building the foundations of the Bene Gesserit. Season 2 continues the story established in Chapter 1, weaving in political tensions, ancient traditions, and the early architecture of the Order long before the events of Dune itself.
HBO and Legendary Television are collaborating once again, continuing the cross-media partnership that powers the blockbuster film series. Schapker returns as showrunner and executive producer, joined by Jordan Goldberg, Mark Tobey, Kevin Lau, Monica Owusu-Breen, Matthew King, Scott Z. Barnes, and Jon Speights. Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert represent the Frank Herbert Estate, with Kevin J. Anderson serving as co-producer.
A new face joins the Bene Gesserit world
Season 2 will see several notable additions to the cast, including Indira Varma, known for Cold Water, The Night Manager, and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1. She is joined by Ashley Walters (Top Boy, Adolescence, Bullet Boy), who recently received critical acclaim for her lead performance in Adolescence. Tom Hollander, fresh off starring in The White Lotus and Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, is also stepping into the world of Dune.
The returning ensemble remains large, including Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sophie Bussunina, Josh Huston, Chloe Lee, Jade Anuka, Faoilianne Cunningham, Edward Davies, Aoife Hynes, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, Yerin Ha and Barbara Marten. And Tessa Bonham Jones will also be back.
When can we premiere it?
HBO has not yet announced a release date. Since production has just begun and episode count expansion is underway, a late 2026 premiere is not impossible, but 2027 seems more realistic.
