TORONTO, ON – Drake has announced that his first Australian tour in eight years will begin on the same day as rival Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance.
The Toronto rapper announced the tour Sunday night during a livestream with Quebec streamer Felix Lengyel.
Drake said the tour kicks off on February 9th, when Lamar is scheduled to take the stage at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, but Drake doesn’t mention that in the video.
He said the tour included visits to Melbourne, Sydney and the Gold Coast and would continue “until sometime in March”.
“I’m going to go to Australia for now. It’s been eight years,” he said. “I love it there.”
A representative for Drake did not immediately respond to requests for more information about the tour or when tickets will go on sale.
The tour follows a public diss between Drake and Lamar, with both men attacking the other on songs such as Drake’s “Taylor Made Freestyle” and Lamar’s “Not Like Us.”
Lamar’s songs have been nominated for five Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
Drake was not nominated for this year’s Grammy Awards, but his representatives did not immediately respond to questions about whether he had submitted work for consideration. In years past, he had chosen not to do so.
