Last week I had the opportunity to spend half a day playing Donkey Kong Bananza (a full preview here).
We were able to experience two new Bananza power-ups from the Ostrich Bananza. This allows Donkey Kong to fly and drop the eggs as a bomb, but what caught my eye was Kong Bananza.
While Donkey Kong takes this formation, he becomes a much larger, angry, destructive version of himself, but he is also very enveloped while doing so.
King of Swing has a massive booty among this power-up. It has its own little physics engine that responds to movement as he climbs and crushs the environment, but the developers knew what they were doing in building this model.
This was most evident in the canyon formations that Donkey Kong uses a mine cart to travel around the world. When in Kong Bananza mode, DK’s booty cannot fit inside the mine cart, his cheeks will sit outside the cart and bounce along the track along the way.
We’d like to see not only how that booty reacts in some other worlds, but also how other Bananza power-ups look.
Donkey Kong Bananza is exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 on July 17th. Amazon has the cheapest price at $99 and offers free shipping here.
