In “Do Patti,” Vidya Jyoti Kanwal (Kajol), a skilled police inspector and qualified lawyer, responds to a domestic violence call. She meets Saumya (Kriti), a battered woman who initially denies her husband Dhruv (Shaheer Sheikh)’s abuse, fearing the effect on her identical twin Shaili.
As Inspector Kanwar digs deeper, he uncovers a complex and toxic dynamic between the twins. Saumya, a traditional housewife, and Shaili, a free-spirited adventurer, share a troubled bond. Both women used to love Dhruv, but Dhruv and Saumya’s marriage spurs Shaili’s revenge.
Dhruv’s brutality escalates and he almost kills Saumya while parasailing. Will Inspector Kanwar be able to protect Saumya from her abusive husband and bring about justice? “Do Patti” takes many twists and turns.
Kriti is the crowning jewel of ‘Do Patti’
The makers have assembled a strong cast of actors consisting of Kajol, Kriti, Shaheer, Tanvi, Bhrynjendra Kala and Vivek Mushran.
Speaking of the cast and their performances, Kajol, who last appeared in “The Trail” in 2023, once again gave a strong performance as a VJ. It expressed the various aspects of a female police officer: compassionate, passionate, strong-willed, sincere, and strong. The only misfit in her performance was that her Garhwali accent didn’t quite fit.
Kriti, who has so far mostly played cheerful and lively characters, has completed a film that is a true test of her acting skills. Kriti played a dual role and played both the characters of Saumya and Shaili beautifully. Her performance as the two characters is definitely the highlight of the film.
It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Kriti gave her best performance yet. She really deserves a role that goes beyond dance numbers and repetitive character shades.
Shaheer, who is best known for his role as Arjun in the TV serial Mahabharat, also made his film debut with Dhu Pati. His personality also has different shades. You will love Dhruv and Saumya’s caring friendship, but you will also hate him for being a typical brat who is not afraid of the law – the minister’s son. All in all, prepare to be both mesmerized and repulsed by Shaheer’s mesmerizing performance.
Weak writing detracts from the story
When Kanika writes a thriller novel, everyone expects nothing but talent from her. Having given us thrillers like ‘Hasseen Dillruba’ and ‘Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba’, the expectations for ‘Do Patti’ were very high. Unfortunately, this is the most disappointing aspect of the movie. Although the suspenseful developments are compelling, the climax is marred by an unconvincing emotional development.
Additionally, the film is bogged down by the underutilization of two acclaimed actors. Tanvi and Brijindra are perfect additions to the cast, but unfortunately, Brijindra in particular is underutilized. With a veteran actor like him, you’ll want to see more of his performance. Unfortunately, he comes and goes and doesn’t bring anything special to the movie. Similarly, Tanvi plays an important role, but her presence is limited and makes little impact.
2.5 stars out of 5 (plus half a star for Kriti’s best performance yet)
