Disney is facing difficulties in producing a Star Wars sequel starring Daisy Ridley after screenwriter Steven Knight left the project.
Variety reported on Thursday that Knight, best known as the creator of the BBC series Peaky Blinders, is no longer working on the series.
The sequel, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, will reportedly follow Rey (Daisy Ridley) as she tries to start a new Jedi Order after the events of Star Wars Episode 11: The Rise of Skywalker. are.
Knight joined the project in March 2023 after screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson also left the film.
The galaxy has been thriving on the streaming platform Disney+ since 2019 with Star Wars TV shows such as “The Mandalorian,” “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” “Ahsoka” and “Andor.”
The new sequel is the latest movie project that Disney has yet to release.
In November 2017, one month before Episode VII: The Last Jedi was released in theaters, Lucasfilm announced that director Rian Johnson would be directing a trilogy with completely new characters separate from those in the Skywalker Saga. He announced what he was working on. Nearly eight years later, the project hasn’t been canceled, but it’s still not in development, IGN reported.
Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and DB Weiss also had a deal to produce their own Jedi trilogy, but they parted ways with Lucasfilm in 2019, Deadline reports. .
That same year, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige confirmed that he was planning a Star Wars movie. However, in 2023, he said he would no longer be working on the project.
In 2020, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins announced that she was developing a Star Wars fighter pilot film, Rogue Squadron.

The studio’s struggles with these projects suggest that there may be recurring problems with scripts, storylines, deadlines, contracts, shooting schedules, or a combination of factors.
For now, Ridley is still on board, teasing an “exciting” update about the film when he spoke with Collider at a recent screening of his upcoming film, Magpie.
She said, “Things are evolving. I remain very excited. Updates will be announced soon.”
Ridley’s comments do not appear to be a reference to Knight’s departure.
The next confirmed Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, is scheduled to be released in theaters in May 2026.
