The Super Bowl trailer and Disclosure Day first look feature have arrived, offering the fullest look yet at Steven Spielberg’s new sci-fi thriller. Watch the trailer above, the featurette below, and read what we know so far.
A mystery that is teased, a mystery that is not explained.
In between Super Bowl spots and features, Disclosure Day provides a fair amount of footage, but it’s clearly not interested in detailing everything. This material leans into tension and curiosity, building a sense that something world-altering is coming, without giving away the full context. It’s more of a snippet than an answer, leaving the film’s biggest questions up in the air.
Both pieces end with the most blatant teasing ever. There’s a glimpse of an arriving spaceship, followed by an unmistakably alien sound. Still, it’s brief, and more of a confirmation that this story is headed somewhere in the universe than a clear reveal of what (or who) is out there.
Spielberg’s Unexplained Events – From Sharks to Saucers
The First Look feature gives Spielberg a chance to talk about his long-time fascination with stories about extraterrestrial life and the unknown. “I’ve always been fascinated by the unexplainable,” he says, adding, “I’ve made a lot of films about the unexplainable, from sharks to saucers.”
He traces that curiosity back to his childhood, remembering that he “developed a real curiosity about the night sky and what was going on there,” and speaks with conviction about what lies beyond the Earth. “It’s not just a possibility, it’s a guarantee that there is life beyond this planet,” Spielberg said.
He also frames the film’s hook as one that feels increasingly present-tense, suggesting that public curiosity has reached breaking point. “People’s questions about not just what’s happening in our skies, but what’s happening in our world, what’s happening in our reality, have reached critical mass,” he says. This feature focuses on the big, vexing question at the heart of it all. “People are totally interested in whether we are alone or not alone. And if someone knows we are not alone, why weren’t we told?”
Powerful cast and creative team
There’s a strong cast here: Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Coleman Domingo, Wyatt Russell.
Disclosure Day reunites director Spielberg with screenwriter David Koepp after working on Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, with Spielberg credited on the story.
And there’s no denying the talent stacked up behind the camera here, too. The film features composer John Williams, cinematographer Janusz Kaminski (Schindler’s List, Minority Report), editor Sarah Brosher (The Fabelmans, Spielberg’s West Side Story), and production designer Adam Stockhausen (Ready Player One, The French Dispatch).
The film is produced by Christy Macosko Krieger and Spielberg, with Adam Somner and Chris Brigham serving as executive producers.
release date
Disclosure Day will be released in Australian cinemas on June 11th and in US cinemas on June 12th.
