Screen Australia and the Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF) have partnered on an initiative to help children’s content makers develop IP for digital platforms such as YouTube, Roblox and FAST.

The program has three phases. The first is an informational webinar that provides practical advice and skills to help applicants create a strong pitch to qualify for the workshop. In the second phase, up to eight teams will be selected. This is a 3-month program that includes in-person workshops, online masterclasses and A$20,000. Phase 3 will allow teams to apply for further development or production funding.

In the second phase, after the first in-person workshop and online masterclass, a second in-person workshop will be held at the end of three months to allow teams to hone their pitch and apply for the second round . Regarding development funds.

Further information on the application process, eligibility criteria and funding details will be available when the program guidelines are published on the Screen Australia website on 19 September.

“Australia has a proud history of creating memorable children’s content that resonates around the world,” Screen Australia CEO Deirdre Brennan said. “As the screen landscape evolves, we need to support creators to seize new opportunities and contribute to a sustainable ecosystem for producing children’s content into the future. We are excited to work with ACTF to promote content that is culturally appropriate and relevant for today’s children.”

ACTF CEO Jenny Buckland said: ‘We are ignoring the digital platforms that our children are drawn to at their peril, but we need to think differently to succeed in these areas. What I love about this partnership with Screen Australia is that it encourages the teams involved to experiment in a collaborative environment, where everyone learns and builds each other up, both new and experienced. In addition to supporting innovative new content from our top players, we believe this initiative will also impact us and the way we support content in the future.”
