Following the half-unconvincing announcement this week, PlayStation asked several retailers and creators to try out the PS5 Pro, and after playing 11 games, the feedback was very positive. It was spot on.
The most important one has always been Digital Foundry, which he says is “very similar to the upgrade you get by putting a tier or two tier or generation or two new PC graphics card in a slot. ” I was impressed. Especially in Performance mode, you can expect higher frame rates without losing visual fidelity. They even went so far as to say that quite a few games look better in performance mode than those running in fidelity mode on the base PS5.
They called F1 24 the most impressive demo, saying it looked next-gen with much improved fidelity and pushed RT effects, but noted major improvements to Final Fantasy Rebirth, Hogwarts as Demon’s Souls It also evoked legacy.
Digital Foundry | Hands-on impressions of PS5 Pro with 11 games tested
Overview: If you’re a Performance Mode player, this console will offer a “significant upgrade” in game quality at 60FPS, better visuals, and additional RT features (like the ability to slot PC GPUs) for the price. I feel it’s worth it. pic.twitter.com/bQLGd2kSbI

Shinobi on Twitter has a great summary of the many enhancements, which I highly recommend reading if you watch the entire Digital Foundry video below.
I would like to introduce some of the things that left an impression on me.
Demon’s Souls delivers 4K-like images at 60FPS versus 1440p/60 and 4K/30 on the base PS5, and features a new contact shadow system with “higher levels of detail” using PSSR Rendered in 4K, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has significantly improved framerates in the 50s. In urban areas and in the 30s and early 40s on base PS5, judder is reduced and more within the VRR window on PS5 Pro. It should look smooth FF7 Rebirth looks as good as or better than the base PS5’s quality mode at 60FPS Hogwarts Legacy looks “significantly better” than the base PS5 at 60FPS performance mode, compared to the PS5’s fidelity mode ” Many settings are used, from “Big Boost” to Hogwarts Legacy’s ray tracing effects. 30FPS fidelity mode benefits from higher resolution and longer range reflections and shadows + PSSR upscaling and AA, RT mode and quality priority mode in Gran Turismo 7; RT mode provides real-time updates to cars during races at 60FPS (not as stable an image as the base PS5’s non-RT native 4K). IQ Priority mode reduces RT and outputs 4K on a 4K screen and 8K on an 8K screen. Sharper F1 24 delivers a “near generational leap in image quality”, delivering 4K/60FPS with multiple RT effects such as DDGI (Dynamic Diffuse Global Illumination), plus RTAO, RT Transparency, RT Opaque Reflection Realize.
PS5 Pro will be released on November 7th. You can pre-order it now on Amazon here or other retailers here.
