Destiny chases off new sagas in Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate

After Bungie finally wraps Destiny’s ambitious decade saga in 2024’s The Final Shape, they look forward to what comes next in Space Furling’s sci-fi shooter. Fate Saga is a saga for several years starting with this year’s The Edge of Fate expansion. There, it is set to a collision course with Nine, a group of space entities that humanity has existed before travelers. Bungie wants to focus on the big questions from Destiny Universe as it is embedded in all new stories.

The end of Fate is set in Kepler after the Guardian and other characters are invited to the planet. Creating your own destiny was the main focus of the light and dark story, but Bungee is trying to challenge the idea through the nines. The story begins this year with Edge of Fate, followed by another expanded renegade within a year. Saga continues with the shattered cycle and the release of the alchemist in its second year. It is proposed that each expansion resembles an iron rise of size. This is very meaty considering the cadence proposed by Bungee in the drops of these content.

Most interesting is the revelation that Kepler and the Edge of Fate incorporate many Metroidvanian elements. Explore new parts of the planet, solve puzzles you may have discovered in previous missions, and unlock the ability to engage in combat in new ways. This is primarily done through Matterspark. This allows Guardians to shoot new forms to shape and move their environments in ways previously impossible. One of Matterspark’s abilities shown was the Guardian who transformed into a small ball of arc energy similar to the Samus morph ball.

To shake up the live service aspect of the game, Bungie brings a revised onboarding process for the world class, a new player, and a reward structure that appears to be shaking very dramatically. Much of that sounds like an overhaul that the game can really do to keep up with other live service services. Free major content updates are also coming in place of Season of Season, with pivots for two paid extensions per year.

Edge of Fate is scheduled to be released in Australia on July 15th, with Renegade coming out on December 3rd. You can check out the release trailer below. The FreeRiteof the Nine event is currently available.
