Death doesn’t take a break anytime soon. Behind the final destination: Bloodlines shattered franchise records earlier this year, and New Line Cinema is moving forward with the seventh installment in the long-running horror series.
Lori Evans Taylor, who co-wrote Bloodlines, returns to write a script for a new chapter solo. It was realized with a reported budget of $58 million, and Bloodlines has drawn more than $285 million worldwide. It has won $138 million from US ticket sales, making it the most successful entry in the franchise to date.
As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, the creative team that revived the franchise earlier this year will continue to be deeply involved. Alongside Taylor, producers Craig Perry, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, John Watts, Diane McGanigle and Toby Emmerich are all back, with Warren Zide returning as executive producer.
Watts, who directed Spider-Man: Homecoming, played an important role in shaping the Bloodlines story alongside Taylor and Ready or Writer Guy Busick.
Expand the rules of death
Perry, who produced all the films in the franchise, spoke at the deadline earlier this year. “I think that by bringing in the idea of starting in the ’60s and going 50 years ago, John Watts creatively freed us so that we could go to so many different places and create connections that we would not have otherwise,” he said.
“And hopefully, this expansion of satellite view planning will give fans the opportunity to have even more interesting and creative deaths in the future for fun.”

Perry added that the ongoing lack of protagonists is part of the series’ enduring appeal.
A legacy of a never-death horror
Since its debut in 2000, its final destination has built a reputation for Rube Goldberg-style death scenes and the assumption that each film would be easily reinvented. With six films, the franchise has won over $983 million worldwide, earning Conjuring Universe and It, the third largest horror brand in the new line.
The release date, cast or director for Final Destination 7 has not yet been announced, but its proven box office revenue and relatively fast turning times may not require fans to wait until they die again.
