Paramount ANZ announces new cast members for new mystery thriller series Playing Gracie Darlings, with Dame Harriet Walter, Dan Spielman and Chloe Brink joining Morgana O’Reilly, Rudy Dharmalingam and Celia Pacuola .
Filming is underway in the Hawkesbury River region of New South Wales on the six-hour series, produced and written by Miranda Nation and directed by Jonathan Braff.
O’Reilly plays Joni, a child psychologist whose best friend Gracie Darling disappeared during a séance when she was 14 and hasn’t been seen since.
Twenty-seven years later, local children in a small town are having fun playing a game of “Pretend Gracie Darling.” But the seemingly innocent game turns sinister when another girl disappears.
Joni confronts her deep fear of the unknown and returns to the town where her best friend Gracie mysteriously disappeared to find out what happened to Gracie that fateful night.
Local sergeant Jay (Rudy Dharmalingam) works with Joni to uncover the truth, while Gracie’s sister Ruth (Celia Pacuola) faces the worst for a mother whose daughter disappears under similar unforgettable circumstances. face the nightmare of
Among the newly announced cast members, Walter (“Succession”) will play Patty, Spielman (“The New Gold Mountain”) will play Peter, and Brink (“Thou Shalt Not Steal”) will play Mina.
As previously reported, the series also stars Anne Tenney as Moira and Annie Maynard as Anita.
Walter described Playing Gracie Darling as a “masterfully constructed script that ‘keeps you guessing’.”
“The role of Patti is completely different from any role I’ve ever played,” she said.
“She dabbles in a world of mysticism with good intentions, albeit a little wrongly, which sometimes causes her to miss what is right in front of her. I also like that she pursues her own earthly pleasures, which are rarely depicted or even hinted at in older female characters.
Curio’s Joe Porter and Rachel Gardner are producing the six-part series for Paramount+ and Miranda Nation, along with Sophia Mogford. Laura Nagy is associate producer and Anya Beyersdorf is writing additional screenplay. Sony Pictures Television is distributing the series internationally, with Screen Australia providing major production investment and Screen NSW providing financial support.
