Netflix dropped the first teaser for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, but it’s not wasting time. After the montage of heartbreak lightning in season 1, the clip lands a gut punch (spoiler for season 1):
David is dead…but Night City lives there.
Not a sequel: Standalone 10 Episode Story
Despite the title, Edgerunners 2 is not a direct continuation. Instead, the new 10-episode run carves out its own story of neon-lit atrocities and broken dreams. The shadowy silhouette suggests a fresh face that must pass through the city at night. And if the first show is any indication, many of them don’t make it.
A brief explanation on the official Cyberpunk website sets the tone and…
“… A record of the life of red and revenge. In a city that thrives in the spotlight of violence, one question remains.
What the creators say
At the Anime Expo in Los Angeles, showrunner Balto Suzetiball explained that CD Projekt Red is always aiming to character-driven storytelling.
“We are a company from Poland. I am from Poland, and the people in Poland are sad. They are born sadly. “I just wanted to make the whole world sad… when people are sad, I am a little happy.”
Sztybor promised that the new season will be “sad, darker, bloodier, and more raw,” adding, “David’s story may be over, but there’s more to it in the night city.” He also praised his return animation partner. “We’re excited to put on the legendary animation studio trigger again, to thrill us with CD Projekt Red and showcase the raw, real record unlike what we’ve done before.”
