Former Screen Australia content manager Sally Kaplan will join debt finance company Fulcrum Media Finance in the newly created role of Executive Chair.
Her appointment was appointed as Zach Parker promoted to CEO, Tim Phillips set out to take on a senior role in production, and Zach Parker was promoted.
Originally from the UK, Kaplan began his career as a lawyer specializing in entertainment law until he moved to the production and distribution sector in the mid-90s. She has worked in Screen Australia for eight years, with other previous roles including the Managing Director of EONE International, where she founded the International Film Sales Business from London and overseeing the head of the British Film Council’s Premier Fund. Kaplan is currently a screen consultant and board director of the Melbourne International Film Festival.
Parker, who worked for Funcrum for four years, will start as CEO in May. In his current role, he oversees fundraising for 150 local films and television projects, including Blue’s film, The Last King of the Cross, Fake, and the Next One Shot. Alongside Phillips, he also set up Funcrum’s entries in the gaming market and offset finance of the digital gaming tax. He previously worked as a lawyer for the Simpsons and worked for local and international producers, investors and talent.
Barry Sechos, director of Fulcrum Media Finance, said the company was honored to attract someone in the Caplain caliber and paid tribute to Phillips while welcoming Parker to the new role.
“Sally is a very experienced and beloved person in the Australian film and television markets, bringing extensive experience in film funding and production,” he said.
“The Commission on Crussells would like to thank Tim for his substantial contribution to the continued growth of Crussels as one of the leading film investors in the Australian and New Zealand markets. With Tim’s decision to pursue a career in filmmaking, Zach Parker shines as a natural alternative to CEO, and has a deep understanding of the strong relationships between production finance, agriculture and his strong relationship.”
Sechos and Emile Sherman continue as fulcrum media finance directors.
