The tense new trailer fell for the long walk, the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s first written novel. Directed by Hunger Games filmmaker Francis Lawrence, the survival thriller takes audiences into a tough future, forcing 100 teenagers to continue walking in a militarized endurance contest, with only one person able to live. King came up with a disastrous concept – and it seems that adaptation will not mitigate the blow. Please see the trailer above for more information.
Walk or Die: The Brutal Tale of a Young Man under Pressure
Set in a close environment under strict military control, the Long Walk follows teenager Raymond Galati (Cooper Hoffman) and fellow competitors. For some reason, stop walking. If you do that, you will be shot on the spot.
The trailer focuses on the emotional connection between Raymond and Peter McVrees (David Johnson, Alien: Romulus) and teases the psychological and physical sacrifices of the march. “No one wants that more than I do,” Raymond says at one point. Along the way, friendships are formed, but as Johnson’s character warns, “you shouldn’t make friends on long walks.”
Reciting friendship and maintaining distance from the majors
The film exists in San Diego Comics Crimes, and screenwriter J.T. Molner assures the crowd that it remains true to the harsh tone of the novel, “We kept our teeth…it’s a ruthlessly brave film.” Actor Mark Hamill plays the indomitable commander known as the Major, but his presence was heavily on the line, not the panel.
In an interview with People, Hamill revealed that his young co-stars initially wanted to avoid him during production. “Cooper (Hoffman) didn’t want to see me… he was afraid he would like me,” Hamill shared. “I fully respect that.” The cast’s hangout plans were scrapped, and Hamill took a case-by-case approach instead. “Some of them wanted to leave for obvious reasons, because I am their priest. I am an adversary.”
Still, the distance melted after the filming was wrapped around. Hoffman came straight to the Hamill trailer and the two spoke. Johnson also learned of Hamill and said, “After that, I talked to this guy. He’s so funny, caring and kind… I love him.”
From the camera, the cast fake the actual connection. Garrett Wareing (Stebbins) shared that Friday’s ritual runs to the dairy queen and runs to the dairy queen to decompress after a shooting day in Canada’s heat. Tut Nyuot (Arthur Baker) said, “This is the most fun thing I’ve ever done on set… you’re leaning against each other.” Of Hamill, Nuot said, “What I saw from him is his ability to be very kind, authentic and professional. What matters is how you make people feel.”
Directors who know the cast of the new stars and dystopia
Francis Lawrence returns to playing his dystopian worldbuilding, following my legend and of course his Hunger Games movies. He directed and directed here from the script by J.T. Molner, who directed and wrote the 2023 Thriller Strange Darling (Highly Recommended) and the 2016 Western Outlaws and Angels.
The cast includes Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Roman Griffin Davis, Jordan Gonzalez, Joshua Odick, Josh Hamilton and Judy Greer.
Release date
The Long Walk will begin at Australian cinemas on September 11th and in the US on September 12th.
